Editor example Multi-row editing

This example shows Editor's multi-row editing capabilities. To select multiple rows for editing, use the ctrl/cmd key to toggle the selection of individual rows in the table and shift to select a range of records. Then simply click the Edit button above the table.

Fields which have different values from the selected rows will show an information message stating this fact. To edit all fields to be the same value click that message and the standard form input will be shown. If left without modifying the value the data submitted to the server will not be modified for the individual rows. This makes it easy to enter a common value for one field without effecting the rest of the data for those rows.

Please note that this initialisation is almost identical to the basic initialisation example - multi-row editing is a core feature of Editor and is automatically supported by all examples on this site! The only difference is to include the fields.multiEditable option for the Extension field, disallowing that field from being edited when multiple rows are selected. See also the multi-row editing manual page for further details.

The Javascript shown below is used to initialise the table shown in this example:

var editor = new DataTable.Editor({ ajax: '../../controllers/staff.php', fields: [ { label: 'First name:', name: 'first_name' }, { label: 'Last name:', name: 'last_name' }, { label: 'Position:', name: 'position' }, { label: 'Office:', name: 'office' }, { label: 'Extension:', name: 'extn', multiEditable: false }, { label: 'Start date:', name: 'start_date', type: 'datetime' }, { label: 'Salary:', name: 'salary' } ], table: '#example' }); $('#example').DataTable({ ajax: '../../controllers/staff.php', buttons: [ { extend: 'create', editor: editor }, { extend: 'edit', editor: editor }, { extend: 'remove', editor: editor } ], columns: [ { data: null, render: function (data, type, row) { // Combine the first and last names into a single table field return data.first_name + ' ' + data.last_name; } }, { data: 'position' }, { data: 'office' }, { data: 'extn' }, { data: 'start_date' }, { data: 'salary', render: DataTable.render.number(null, null, 0, '$') } ], dom: 'Bfrtip', select: true });

In addition to the above code, the following Javascript library files are loaded for use in this example:

The HTML shown below is the raw HTML table element, before it has been enhanced by DataTables:

This table loads data by Ajax. The latest data that has been loaded is shown below. This data will update automatically as any additional data is loaded.

The script used to perform the server-side processing for this table is shown below. Please note that this is just an example script using PHP. Server-side processing scripts can be written in any language, using the protocol described in the DataTables documentation.
